Hemorrhagic Coli (HC) agar is recommended for isolation and enumeration of Escherichia coli, the primary strain causing hemorrhagic colitis with an enzyme labelled monoclonal antibody as per APHA. The method of usage involves homogenization of test sample in peptone water, filtration through Hydrophobic Grid Membrane Filters (HGMF). The filters are then layed onto Hemorrhagic Coli (HC) agar followed by incubation. Appearance: Cream to yellow homogeneous free flowing powder Gelling: Firm, comparable with 1.5% Agar gel Color and Clarity of prepared medium: Purple colored, clear to slightly opalescent gel forms in Petri plates Reaction: Reaction of 6.11% w/v aqueous solution at 25°C. pH : 7.2±0.2 Cultural Response: Cultural characteristics observed after an incubation at 43°C for 16-20 hours
