Cell Line Description

The Chinese hamster embryo fibroblast (CHEF) line is a nontumorigenic and stable diploid cell line, with a high serum requirement for growth. It is isolated from embryo preparation and is a spontaneous tumorigenic anchorage-independent line.

Application

IIC9 (CH0) is suitable for selective growth of some rodent epithelial cells in a medium containing citrulline.

Culture Medium

DMEM:F12 (1:1) (D8062) + 5% FBS / FCS (F2442) + 2mM L-Glutamine (G7513).

Subculture Routine

Split sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) 1:10 ie. seeding at 2-4 x10,000 cells/cm² using 0.25% trypsin /EDTA; 37°C; 5% CO₂.
