Lactobacilli Heteroferm Screen HiVegTM agar is recommended for isolation and cultivation of Lactobacillus species from salad dressings. Hiveg medium is the modification of MRS medium by DeMan et al and is recommended by APHA. The samples are first inoculated in MRS broth, Modified. The presumptive positive tubes are then confirmed by streaking on this media. This medium is prepared by replacing animal peptones with vegetable defined peptones to avoid BSE/TSE/GMO risk.
