Mercury(II) bromide

General description

Mercury(II) bromide (HgBr₂) affords 1:1 adducts on reaction with N,N,N′,N′- tetramethyl-o-phenylenediamine. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies of these adducts have been reported. It forms complexes by reacting with 3,12-dimethylbenzo[a]quinoxalino[2,3-c]phenazine ligand.

Application

Mercury(II) bromide (HgBr₂) may be used in the preparation of mononuclear [Hg(L1)Br₂] and 1D polymer [Hg₂(L2)Br₄]_n [L1 = (N,N-diethyl,N′-(pyridin-2-yl)formylidene)ethane-1,2-diamine and L2 = (N,N-diethyl,N′-(pyridin-2-yl)benzylidene)ethane-1,2-diamine]. It may also be used as a promoter in the glycoslyation reaction of alcohols.
