LKT LABORATORIES
Mycotoxin, oxidative phosphorylation inhibitor, and potential ER agonist found in Alternaria. It prevents photosynthesis, induces apoptosis in colon carcinoma cells, and may exhibit mutagenic activity. (C003B-255813)
Alternariol 9-methyl ester (A9ME) is a highly toxic mutagenic phytotoxin initially produced by species of Alternaria. A9ME is present in grain and fruit used for livestock feed and human consumption.
Alternariol 9-methyl ester (A9ME) is a highly toxic mutagenic phytotoxin initially produced by species of Alternaria. A9ME is present in grain and fruit used for livestock feed and human consumption. A9ME inhibits the electron transport chain, preventing photosynthesis in vitro. Additionally, A9ME may exhibit anticancer potential in a cellular model of colon carcinoma, as it decreases the mitochondrial membrane potential, increasing release of cytochrome c and activating caspases 3 and 9; this results in apoptosis and cell death.
