It may also be used in dehydration, Fischer-Indole Synthesis, Beckmann Rearrangement and Schmidt Rearrangement reactions. It can be used as a catalyst in the synthesis of various aromatic ketones. PPA may be used as a catalyst during the synthesis of dimethyl carbonate (DMC) from urea and methanol. It also acts as an absorbent for the ammonia generated in the process.
