Trifluoroacetic Anhydride is a colorless liquid that is used to protect secondary amine groups and hydroxyl groups respectively under nitrolysis/nitration conditions. The trifluoroacetyl protecting group may be readily removed from the nitrated products by solvolysis under mild conditions.
