Hiveg media used for the cultivation of fastidious organisms, on supplementation with blood. This medium is devoid of dextrose and therefore useful in determining the haemolytic reactions. This medium is recommended by FDA and APHA. Application: For the Isolation of Fastidious organisms & Determining the Haemolytic Reactions Appearance of powder: Light yellow colored, may have slightly greenish tinge, homogeneous, free flowing powder Gelling: Firm, comparable with 1.5% Agar gel Color and Clarity: Basal medium yields yellow colored slightly opalescent gel. With addition of 5-7% v/v defibrinated sterile blood cherry red colored, opaque gel forms in petri plates Reaction of 3.3% w/v aqueous solution is pH 7.2 ± 0.2 at 25°C Cultural characteristics observed after an incubation at 35-37°C for 18 - 48 hours
